Sylt

Been in Germany visiting golf courses this week. Here are a few pics from the island of Sylt, off the coast, close to the Danish border.

There is a causeway linking the island to the mainland, but you can't drive across it. Instead, you take your car on the Auto Zug, a shuttle train. It was pretty amazing to see huge trucks on the back of the train.

This church is in Westerland, the island's main town. Quite nice brickwork, and an appealing spire, I thought.

Here is the Rathaus.

I had no idea Germans were so into their tea. There were loads of tea-related shops: here is one of them.

LIVEBLOG Aftermath

This huge branch crashed down from a great height into two fence panels (shortly to be replaced) and unfortunately took a branch of our apple tree with it. It's only a small tree though, so it'll grow back quickly enough. Darcey says it's the first time he's had a branch take out a fence in three years.

The trunk will be cut down to just above ground level, then, in a few weeks, Darcey will return with the stump grinder.

The back garden is in a state!

And here is Maisie among the debris for you cat lovers.
